TikTok Shop Fulfillment From China: Two Routes, One Warehouse

TL;DR · 30 seconds

TikTok Shop fulfillment from China covers two routes: FBT inbound and seller fulfillment. Learn the records each needs and why the order packing page is not the FBT spec.

TikTok Shop sellers in the US run two different logistics paths out of China, and the preparation for each is not the same. A TikTok Shop fulfillment service based in China can handle both: FBT inbound, where stock is prepped and sent to a TikTok fulfillment center, and seller fulfillment, where orders are shipped directly from a China warehouse.

This page explains the two routes, the records each one needs, and why the packing guidance for one should never be used as the spec for the other.

Two routes, not one

The first mistake sellers make is treating TikTok Shop logistics as a single workflow. FBT inbound and seller fulfillment are separate instructions with separate records. A China warehouse preparing for FBT is building cartons destined for a fulfillment center. A China warehouse handling seller fulfillment is dispatching individual orders. Mixing the two records is how units get misrouted or rejected.

FBT inbound preparation

For FBT, the sellable unit is sealed and protected, the barcode stays visible and unobstructed, and the unit count in each carton matches the approved inbound request. The destination fulfillment center and its appointment are confirmed before the carton is released. The marketplace prep page covers the shared per-unit tasks; this section covers what is specific to FBT intake.

Seller fulfillment preparation

Seller fulfillment is order level. Each parcel is built to the order, the Ship From location is recorded, and the carrier handoff is documented. The records here track a single shipment to a single buyer, not a pallet destined for a fulfillment center. The difference between the two routes is explained in our prep versus fulfillment comparison.

Returns and exit inventory are different instructions

A buyer return and an Exit Inventory removal are two completely different commands with two different records. A returned unit is coming back through the sales channel; an exit instruction removes stock from TikTok inventory entirely. Treating one as the other is a common cause of stock disappearing from available counts without explanation. The broader framework is in our return disposition guide.

Do not use the order packing page as the FBT spec

TikTok publishes order packing guidance for sellers, but that guidance does not cover FBT sellers. The order packing page describes how to ship a buyer parcel, not how to build an FBT inbound carton. Using the order packing page as the FBT specification leads to wrong labels, wrong carton contents, and dock rejection. Keep the two specs separate and confirm which one applies before preparing a batch.

Records to prepare before release

Before anything leaves the China warehouse, the route is confirmed and the matching record is closed. For FBT that means the inbound request, carton count, and appointment. For seller fulfillment that means the order, Ship From location, and carrier handoff. Every batch is released only against an approved inbound plan, and the full set of shipment records travels with the order. Returns handling is covered in the returns playbook, and DTC coordination is described on the retail and DTC page.

Frequently asked questions

What is TikTok Shop fulfillment from China?

It is the preparation and dispatch work a China warehouse does for TikTok Shop sellers, covering both FBT inbound to a fulfillment center and seller fulfillment of individual orders. The two routes use different records and must not be prepared from the same specification.

What does a TikTok Shop prep service do?

For FBT it seals and protects sellable units, keeps barcodes visible, matches carton counts to the approved inbound request, and confirms the destination and appointment. For seller fulfillment it builds order level parcels, records the Ship From location, and documents the carrier handoff.

What is TikTok Shop seller fulfillment?

Seller fulfillment means the seller ships orders directly rather than sending stock to FBT. Each parcel is prepared to the order, the Ship From location is recorded, and the carrier handoff is documented as a single shipment to a single buyer.

Can the TikTok order packing page be used as the FBT spec?

No. The order packing guidance covers buyer parcels, not FBT inbound cartons. Using it as the FBT specification produces wrong labels and carton contents and leads to rejection at the fulfillment center.

How are TikTok returns different from exit inventory?

A return brings a unit back through the sales channel, while an exit instruction removes stock from TikTok inventory. They are different commands with different records, and confusing them causes stock to leave available counts without a clear reason.

What records does a China warehouse keep for TikTok Shop?

For FBT: the inbound request, carton count, destination and appointment. For seller fulfillment: the order, Ship From location, and carrier handoff. Each batch is released only against an approved inbound plan, with records kept from receipt to release.
